What? Armed Teachers?

I just heard on  TV Trump calling for armed teachers in our schools.  He said this would solve "the plague of school shootings".  This has to be the most stupid thing I've heard in a long time.  When I went to school we would have never thought of teachers carrying weapons.  I went to Catholic schools and the closest thing we had to an armed teacher was a nun with a baseball bat or paddle to ensure quiet in the classroom!  But of course back then we didn't have any AR-15 assault weapons around for the occasional student with behavior problems to purchase at the local hobby shop!  And not one school shooting! Also I remember  that the NRA was for hunters only! Oh how times have changed!

I Forgot My Password!

The other day I was working with my blogs and trying to get into some of my Google accounts.  I was in an area where I had never gone before and was asked to enter a password for some Google application I have never heard of.  I had no idea what to do, so I put in my usual Google password, but it didn't work. So I decided to try clicking on "Forgot My Password" and waited for the link to reset my password. I reset it and then tried the new password. It didn't work!  I spent about 30 minutes screwing around with this app I had never even heard of and accomplished nothing! Sorry I did accomplish something. I managed to change all of my Google passwords! Now I had to scurry to remember what I changed them to!

We have passwords for our computers, our phones, our email, our bank accounts and every single site we use on a daily basis.  How the hell are we supposed to remember all of those damn passwords?  It is especially hard for us seniors.  We are always told not to write them down on paper, lest we lose the paper. So what are we supposed to do?  I have an app on my phone called m Secure, which is a password management app that I use and find to be quite helpful.  Of course it requires a password! It is also free to download. I find it very useful, but I still have to remember to put in the passwords for every account and every site I use. I also have to remember that I need to have my phone with me every time I use my computer.

Computer security experts also recommend that we change our passwords several times during the year and create one with all kinds of various letters, numbers and symbols.  That's a lot of complicated crap to remember!  I can't figure out why all of the computer and security experts can come up with highly complicated technologically advanced techniques for just about everything, but they can't come up with a safe and simple replacement for passwords!  How about facial recognition or fingerprints to replace passwords?  This would really help those of us who can't remember what we had for dinner last night!

Peeing All Night with BPH

As anyone with BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia) knows there are quite a number of unpleasant symptoms associated with this disorder.  One of the most annoying is having to get up several times during the night to pee!  There are times when I only get up once or twice, but then there are other times when I have to get up every hour or even less than an hour.  When I have done research on the Internet articles ( as well as in discussion with my urologist) the ones I have found say you should stop drinking fluids after 6 or so.  This can sometimes be difficult and most importantly it doesn't work!  Every article says you should avoid alcohol too, but I find when I have a few glasses of red wine at night I get up less! I've reported this to my urologist and he says each person reacts differently, so if it works for me do it.

I do take Alfuzosin to treat my symptoms, but it doesn't seem to have any effect on my nocturia ( having to urinate often during the night).  I have researched an found many natural herbs that people say are effective for nighttime trips to the bathroom, but unfortunately none that I have tried worked.  I recently read a number of articles reporting that eating a handful of raisins prior to retiring reduces the number of times one has to urinate. I figured raisins are cheap and easily available and taste good too, so why not give it a try.  Most reports say that they work on the first try. Well I've been eating raisins for a week now and guess what?  They don't work!!!  Another myth goes down the tubes!

One would think that with so many old guys out there having to get up and pee all night long that medical science could find something that would stop this annoying frequent flow! Think of the money they'd make!

Motivation and Blogging

www.flickr.com

I have been blogging with Blogger for about 6 years now and have 5 blogs, ranging from travel to pets to politics.  I originally started blogging as a hobby after I retired and moved to Malaysia.  I also wanted to make a little bit of money to pay the expenses of maintaining a blog and having some change left over for a beer a two a week.  Well after all of this time I have made a little over $5!  I also have put many hours into trying to increase my readership.  I have spent hours on the Internet searching for ways to make a little money and ways to promote my various blogs. But with very little earned money and few readers it's difficult to keep going.

Sometimes I go weeks or even months without writing a new post for one of my blogs because I simply don't have the motivation.  Every once and a while I get so bored that I fantasize that maybe I really can write a successful blog.  This is evidently one of those times!  Quite often I find that I come up with some fantastic ideas for a post, but  it is in the middle of the night or when I am out of the house. By the time I get to sit in front of the computer I have forgotten the idea, lost interest or am just too tired to write.

With my political blog, Steveso Thinks, every day gives thousands of ideas on political issues, but sometimes I feel that it is useless to share my opinions in this atmosphere of a a divided country so full of hate.  There are so many issues to write about , but I would only be giving my opinion and not really accomplishing anything.  At least I can blow off some steam!

My blog about my two dogs, Cattle Dog Kids, is fun to write because I don't have to do any research and I don't have to search for photos I can use for free. I have tons of photos of my dogs, Cato and Lucky.  I guess I am just too lazy to keep updating their adventures!

With this blog I try not to be political or write about too many social issues. I started it so that I could write about whatever came into my head, thus the name Free Flowing Waves.  Of all of my blogs this one is the most difficult to promote as it does not fit nicely into any niche.  And everyone knows that to be successful in blogging you need to find your niche!  I find that most of the personal blogs are about fashion, social media or business and sell goods or services to support the blog. I don't want to start a business or sell anything on my blog, but I do advertise through Ebay, Amazon and Adsense to help make some spare change.

I think I now have some motivation to start posting on my blogs again and to hope for the best, in regards to increasing readership and making some coins.  I'll start working again trying to promote my blogs and try harder to write posts more frequently.  Who knows? Maybe this time it just might work!
